The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the United States against five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on figures that were central to campaigns to enact legislation regulating US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
