Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
