19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
